Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Baby Shower

My best friend and her husband recently welcomed a baby boy! A group of us got together and hosted a baby shower for them earlier in the summer. She picked the theme and from there I wouldn't let her in on any of the details! Being on this journey with them has truly touched my soul. They are amazing parents and I'm so happy for their family! Having so much help from other people allowed me to step in a creative space I have previously been afraid of. From the outside, it looks like it was a lot of work (and it was), but I was happy to do it and happy to learn from the great universities of YouTube and Pinterest! I made fondant and gum paste cupcake toppers and they were so stinking cute! I used homemade marshmallow fondant and I was so nervous! It turned out well though! I won't bore you with the details, because I really just want to brag for a minute! See?! Aren't they just adorable?  This shower was an ode to love, new and old. To my friends,

The Black Plate

By now we are family and you know how incredibly greedy in love with food I am. I make it a mission to attend as many food events that I can afford. Sometimes I get to go to one a year, sometimes I get to attend several. I try not to limit my palate. I generally keep an open mind when it comes to trying new allergies, tofu, and squid being the exceptions. I just don't like squid and tofu, regardless of the preparation. I have been following Chef E Dot (Eric Smith) for some time. I am impressed with the brother! I have attended events in the past where he was the chef, but had never really felt like I could truly connect the man to the food. The Black Plate was different. This was all him. He was in his element and you could feel his love for the food. It's the chef's connection. It's the reason I don't cook or bake when I'm in a bad mood. You can taste the love. What is The Black Plate? An underground dining experience. You don't get

Trinity is 6!

She has not been a baby for a very long time. It seems like the second the clock turned and it was her birthday she became a diva. She's always been bossy...but she didn't steal that. Now, if it isn't the way she wants it, she doesn't want it. At. All. I initially had plans to have a small gathering at my house with some inflatable pools and the like. Then I thought about wet kids and mud and grass and quickly changed my mind. I was on the way to telling her we could just go to Carowinds for the day but she decided she wanted to have a party at "the gymnastics place." Does she do gymnastics? No. But we have been to 4 parties there and they are always a good time. It wasn't cheap, but if I'm being honest with myself, I would have spent so much more if I had it at home. And this experience was completely hands off. They even ordered and picked up a cake! Although a lot of people that were invited ended up not showing up, we still had a ball. I
