Good day y'all!
I just realized that I've been to Nashville and to Washington, DC and haven't shared it with those of you that follow here.
I know I keep promising to write more. It's difficult!
I made a promise to myself to SEE.SOME.WORLD. And I've been trying. It's hard to break away though. Work has been insane for the last few years due to us renovating and/or building brand new buildings for most of our locations. My job is kind of important, so sometimes I just can't go. And I have to factor in if the kid is going to join me or if I'll take solo trips. I have a few more trips coming up this year that I will share more in detail with you guys. And I had a few I had to turn down for various reasons, but none of those reasons involved me not wanting to go! I want to go everywhere! I want to hang out with friends in other cities. Maybe now that daycare payments are almost done I will be able to see more! (WOOOO for that raise!)
Nashville was cold. LOL. Grant it, it was still winter. But we saw some Nashville! That Hot Chicken is something to be rivaled! We stayed at the Gaylord Opryland. That place is HUGE! It is also full of greenery that makes you feel like you're outside and it was beautiful! Nashville has so much food and so much to do! While there, we visited Madame Tussauds, the Country Music Hall of Fame and tried to eat all the food! All of it. Biscuit Love has the most amazing Chronic Bacon! I was mad I didn't order some for myself. When I go back, I want a pound! Pancake Pantry's everything is good. The banana bread pancakes made me want to hug my momma. I ain't lying y'all. And OMG Prince's Hot Chicken Shack! We shopped, I slept. I slept some more. My sister wanted to see everything and all I wanted to do was sleep in that comfy bed, eat snacks and repeat. Nashville is still a whole lot confederate. A. Lot. We didn't personally have any issues, but we were not blind either.
I had a few issues in DC, but overall the trip was amazing! I didn't know how delicious DC was! And I got to go to the National Museum of African American History and Culture! OMG! I only took a picture of the building. Once we got inside I was too emotional, too moved, and too busy trying to see everything. I still didn't see everything by the way. I need to go back like 5 more times. I was kind of bummed because I thought we wouldn't be able to go. I couldn't get tickets. And then a friend said, well don't you still have a military i.d. or a veteran's i.d. card? Why yes, yes I do! I didn't need tickets! And with military affiliated identification, you can get 2 additional people in with you! Trying to get those timed passes is a process!
I asked Facebook for food recommendations and was not disappointed. I couldn't eat everywhere, because I was there for a conference, but man! If I had known how much of an adventure DC was, I would have gone a long time ago! People tried to tell me. I just didn't listen. My top restaurant recommendation would have to be Founding Farmers. It came highly recommended by several people and it did not disappoint! We ate a lot of food. Enjera Ethiopian, Bozelli's, Portofino, Full Kee, Jaleo, and a few other places. The honey wine at Enjera was so good! We got sick after we ate there though. We were generally underwhelmed by the White House (no we didn't do a tour) and majorly overwhelmed by other buildings with such gorgeous architecture. It was hard not to constantly look up. DC was also cold and rainy and I was NOT prepared. It was like the forecast changed on the plane! We took the Metro. During rush hour, but we didn't die! There were times of extreme crowdiness (did I just make that word up), but it was too easy to get around that way! We need a rail system in Columbia!
I can't wait to see some more cities! I need to find a side hustle that can fund all the traveling I want to do. Baby Magic keeps asking to go to Paris...she also keeps asking for a baby. *eye rolls*
